Privacy
PhotoBlur is made by one person, Preethi Rao. This page explains, in plain words, what happens to your photos and what little data the site uses. Last updated 27 October 2026.
Your photos stay on your device
When you open a photo, it is read by your browser and stays there. Face detection, background blur, the effects, filters and the export all run in your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photo is never uploaded to a server, not to PhotoBlur and not to anyone else, and nothing about the photo is stored or sent.
To do this, the page downloads its tools once: the face and person detection models and the effects come from photoblur.app itself. You can check it: once Blur background has run, switch off Wi-Fi and keep editing.
What runs where
- In your browser: everything that touches your photo, plus two small settings saved on your
device (
localStorage): your answer to the usage stats question (pb-usage-stats) and whether More options is open (pb-more-options). They never leave your device. - Cloudflare hosts the site (Cloudflare Pages). Like any web host, it handles your browser's requests for the page files, which includes your IP address. It does not receive your photos.
- Google Fonts serves the site's fonts, so your browser asks Google's font servers for them, which shares your IP address with Google.
- Google Analytics only if you allow usage stats, as described below.
Usage stats (only if you allow them)
The first time you visit, PhotoBlur asks whether it may count anonymous usage. If you choose No thanks, or don't answer, Google Analytics is not loaded at all and no analytics cookies are set.
If you choose Allow, the site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and a few actions: that a photo was opened
(and whether by file, drag and drop or paste), which effect was picked, that a photo was downloaded (format and
pixel size), and clicks on the Android app link. It never includes the photo, its content, its file name or
anything detected in it. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (_ga) to tell visits apart.
Advertising features are switched off. The data helps decide what to improve.
Your current choice: not chosen yet.
This clears your saved answer and the Google Analytics cookies on this site, stops the stats right away and shows the question again. You can also change your answer any time with Usage stats at the bottom of every page.
Your rights and contact
You can ask what data about you exists, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. As PhotoBlur keeps no accounts and never receives photos, the only data involved is the usage stats above, if you allowed them. For questions, write to preethiraopn1992@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.
The PhotoBlur Android app is a separate product with its own privacy policy on Google Play.
