Blur faces in a photo online

Want to share a photo of a school event, a street or a crowd without showing who is in it? PhotoBlur finds every face in the picture and blurs it in one click. It runs in your browser, so the photo stays on your phone or computer the whole time.

How to do it

  1. Open your photo. Choose a file, drag it in, or paste it.
  2. Choose Blur faces. PhotoBlur finds each face and blurs it with the selected effect.
  3. Keep someone sharp. Click that person’s face in the list under Blur faces (in Settings on a phone) to leave them unblurred.
  4. Cover anything missed. Paint over it with the brush in Blur mode, for example a face in profile or one far in the background.
  5. Download. The result keeps your photo’s full resolution, with no watermark.

Blur, mosaic or motion

Faces are hidden with the selected effect: a soft Blur, a Mosaic of square blocks, or one of the motion effects. For anything sensitive, use a strong setting, a large blur radius or big mosaic blocks, so that nobody can be recognised.

Frequently asked questions

Does PhotoBlur upload my photo?

No. Face detection runs on your device with a model that your browser downloads once from photoblur.app. Your photo never leaves your phone or computer.

Why was a face not found?

Faces need to be roughly 20 pixels or larger, and faces turned far to the side or partly covered can be missed. Paint over them with the brush in Blur mode.

Can I keep one person sharp?

Yes. After Blur faces, click that person’s face in the list to unblur them, and click it again to blur them again.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark, and the download keeps the photo’s full resolution.
